GrandCentral Connects With Global Crossing's VoIP Local Service for Unified Communications
25 March 2007
Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that GrandCentral Communications, Inc. (http://www.grandcentral.com), a next-generation personal communications company, has selected Global Crossing VoIP Local Service(TM) to its converged personal communications solution. Global Crossing's VoIP Service enables GrandCentral's unified communications customers to eliminate multiple phone numbers by assigning a single phone number as their personal identity access to voicemail via phone, e-mail or the Internet. Global Crossing provides GrandCentral with single IP interconnection, transport and call completion of packet-based voice traffic over Global Crossing's integrated IP and TDM platforms. This gives them a secure, reliable, high-quality inbound voice service necessary for next- generation applications. "GrandCentral's solution gives customers one phone number that reaches them at any device they choose and gives them unprecedented control over how calls are handled," said Craig Walker, CEO of GrandCentral. "Global Crossing's VoIP Local Service enables us to tie all of our customers' devices together, no matter where they are. This allows them to answer a call at any phone they want and even seamlessly switch phones in the middle of a call." GrandCentral is a unified communications carrier that integrates existing phones, numbers and voicemail boxes, bridging the gap between voicemail and email. Customers are assigned one phone number for life that is not tied to a phone or a particular location, and are offered one easy Web interface that allows them to control and customize the way they can be reached. "Our IP network and comprehensive converged IP services portfolio position us as one of the few global service providers that are able to offer GrandCentral a global VoIP platform to support their business," said Anthony Christie, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer and managing director of GCUK. "That network reach, combined with our advanced IP platform, is proving crucial to the growth strategy of next-generation, converged unified personal communications providers, such as GrandCentral." Global Crossing announced this week that it is adding new features to its Global Crossing VoIP Local Service(TM) and extending the service into Rome, Milan and Hong Kong. The company also announced it is expanding the United States availability of VoIP Local Service to 83 additional communities. VoIP Local Services have been extended to Hong Kong and Italy supporting the existing suite of VoIP Outbound and converged IP services is those two markets. VoIP Local service is also available in Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK and the United States. Global Crossing VoIP Local Service complements the company's VoIP Outbound services, which are available from 29 countries around the world, and provides the consistency multinational customers require from global services. Global Crossing VoIP Local Service is an inbound local service that provides nationwide Direct Inward Dialing/Direct Dial Inward (DID/DDI) functionality through a single IP interconnection. The service lets customers originate traffic on the public switched telephone network in different countries using geographic and non-geographic numbers. Global Crossing's global fully meshed MPLS-based network ensures that VoIP calls are delivered with minimal latency, packet loss and jitter -- consistent and predictable call quality not possible with voice services based on public Internet transport. Global Crossing's VoIP platform carried more than 30 billion minutes of use during 2006, positioning the company as a leader in global IP communications. Global Crossing and GrandCentral plan to jointly host a solutions theater presentation at the VON Spring 2007 trade show, San Jose, CA, that illustrates how Global Crossing's VoIP platform supports GrandCentral's personal communications convergence solution. The theater presentation, "Personal Communications Solutions - How VoIP Helps Create New Business Opportunities," will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2007, from 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m., Pacific Time. Hosts will be Global Crossing's Al DiGabriele, vice president of voice services product management, and GrandCentral's CEO, Craig Walker.
