Pacific Internet Shows Leadership in Small-and-Medium Business Segment with Another Major Industry Accolade
12 March 2007
Pacific Internet (Australia), part of the Asia Pacific's largest telco-independent communications service provider by geographic reach, Pacific Internet Limited (Nasdaq: PCNTF), won the 2007 Australian Telecommunications User Group (ATUG) award for 'Best Communications Solution -- Small Business,' at the annual gala dinner and industry awards last night. The award recognizes Pacific Internet's IP private network solution incorporating the company's flagship product, SecureSite, tailored for Global Mall Media. Pacific Internet was one of five companies shortlisted for providing the most outstanding communications solution to a small business, which has efficiently and cost effectively contributed to the successful operation of that business. Mr Dennis Muscat, managing director of Pacific Internet (Australia) said: "I'm thrilled Pacific Internet has been recognized again for providing tangible and innovative communications solutions to the small and medium business (SMB) sector." This is the fourth industry award Pacific Internet has received during the past two years for products and services purpose-built for the SMB market. Global Mall Media, a Perth based business with less than 15 employees, create and deliver integrated video and audio advertising with search functionality to interactive directory and advertising kiosks in large shopping centres across five states and territories. The solution enables Global Mall Media to access, monitor and instantaneously update content on more than 350 kiosks in 20 shopping centres without stepping foot in the centre. It has also enabled them to maintain the presence of a much larger company and allow for expansion. Paul Pettersen, technical operations manager of Global Mall Media said: "Prior to partnering with Pacific Internet, we used multiple ISPs to provision two shopping centres. Electronic security was a huge problem. Pacific Internet's scalable SecureSite solution has solved these problems and has grown as we have. Their security and technical aspects are the best there is. And because we haven't experienced debilitating downtime, it's saved time, money and enhanced our reputation for providing a quality product." Mr Muscat also said that the award was a nod for the importance of Internet security to the health of the SMB sector. "When SecureSite was first launched," Mr Muscat said, "market comprehension of managed network security was virtually non-existent. Pacific Internet has led the market in educating SMBs of the possibilities a managed network security system offers their business and the value it can have improving business efficiencies to the extent SMBs now contact us requesting the product." The October 2006 Broadband Barometer survey, commissioned by Pacific Internet, found that 92% of SMBs have broadband but nearly half (46%) do not have integrated security within their internet connection or network. The ATUG awards are an annual, national forum recognizing outstanding performance and contributions made by Australians in the Telecommunications Industry.
