Harvard's University Information Services Division Deploys the PGP Encryption Platform

25 January 2007

PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data security and encryption solutions, today announced that Harvard's University Information Services (UIS) has implemented the PGP(R) Encryption Platform to secure sensitive information. UIS will be deploying PGP(R) Whole Disk Encryption to protect data stored on its desktop and laptop computers and PGP Universal(TM) Server for centralized management of its encryption applications.

UIS provides the central IT infrastructure for Harvard University, the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. The division is deploying PGP(R) technology to avoid the security breaches that continue to concern the higher education community. A noted consumer organization recently stated that 30 percent of all reported security breaches in 2006 involved educational institutions. The PGP(R) solution selected by UIS is an increasingly popular deployment by universities and companies of all sizes. PGP Whole Disk Encryption provides strong security for intellectual property as well as student and faculty data, and PGP Universal Server, at the core of the PGP Encryption Platform, enables administrators and help desk staff to easily support end users. PGP Universal Server provides unified, Web-based administration for all PGP Encryption Platform-enabled applications, users, policies, provisioning, logging, and reporting through a single management console.

Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation, said, "PGP Corporation is pleased to provide Harvard's University Information Services with the ability to safeguard its data. Our encryption technology continues to gain acceptance from leading universities because the confidential information stored on computers can literally affect lives if exposed. Now, students and faculty can protect their valuable content from loss or theft and university donors can have peace of mind that personal information, such as their account and Social Security numbers, is not exposed. We are proud to have Harvard's University Information Services as a customer."

About PGP Whole Disk Encryption

PGP Whole Disk Encryption protects intellectual property, customer data, and brand equity with transparent, full disk encryption that locks down a drive without changing user behavior or workflow. The application secures data from multiple threats with a single, centrally managed client, making theft or loss of a system or removable media far less damaging to a user or business. It also provides safe, single sign-on to Microsoft Windows through password synchronization, and is available for Mac OS X non-boot drives, enabling removable media to be encrypted and shared between users on different operating systems.

About the PGP Encryption Platform

The PGP Encryption Platform lowers operational costs and accelerates application deployment through a single management console for centralized policy and configuration. The platform provides multiple layers of encryption across a global enterprise with comprehensive policy enforcement, key management, recovery, and reporting services. A true enterprise offering, the PGP Encryption Platform is extensible, providing standards-based interfaces for third-party developers, such as Research In Motion(R) (RIM(R)), to leverage services. The RIM-developed PGP(R) Support Package for BlackBerry(R) uses the same keys, policies, and configuration as other PGP Encryption Platform-enabled applications. The platform also integrates with third-party enterprise solutions, including directory services and PKIs as well as email hygiene and outbound content compliance solutions.

About PGP Corporation

PGP Corporation, a global security software company, is the leader in email and data encryption. Based on a unified key management and policy infrastructure, the PGP(R) Encryption Platform offers the broadest set of integrated applications for enterprise data security. PGP platform-enabled applications allow organizations to meet current needs and expand as security requirements evolve for email, laptops, desktops, instant messaging, PDAs, network storage, FTP and bulk data transfers, and backups.

PGP solutions are used by more than 80,000 enterprises, businesses, and governments worldwide, including 95 percent of the Fortune(R) 100, 75 percent of the Fortune(R) Global 100, and 87 percent of Germany's DAX index. As a result, PGP Corporation has earned a global reputation for innovative, standards-based, and trusted solutions.
