Mobile Enterprise Applications Set for Strong Growth in Latin America

20 January 2007

An increasingly mobile workforce that needs 'anytime, anywhere' access to corporate intranets and critical data and applications at the office is driving the growth of the mobile enterprise in Latin America. This region presents a significant opportunity for mobile operators to increase their revenues by wirelessly connecting on-the-move employees with the office through smart phones, cell phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.mobileandwireless.frost.com ), Latin America Mobile Enterprise Market, reveals that this market earned revenues of $7,528.3 million in 2006 and estimates this to reach $15,537.5 million in 2012.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users and other industry participants with an overview of the latest analysis of Latin America mobile enterprise market, then send an e-mail to Jorgelina Pecina, Corporate Communications, at jorgelina.pecina@frost.com with your full name, company name, title, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, city and country. Upon receipt of the above information, an overview will be sent to you.

"The demand for wireless enterprise applications is poised for immense growth in the years to come and carriers and vendor developers can look forward to substantial opportunities," remarks Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Andres Sciarrotta. "Newer and more personalized applications are likely to help operators expand the number of business users."

Both voice and data business applications are expected to grow in terms of revenues and lines, thereby increasing the significance of the mobile enterprise market in the total mobile market. Having identified the potential of these applications, operators are likely to intensify their efforts in promoting these services. Combined with the greater affordability of advanced types of handsets, this is likely to be a key factor in driving market growth.

Currently, the high prices of handsets and solutions and a continuing lack of awareness about the capabilities of mobile enterprise applications are limiting their uptake and restraining the market. Users' concern about the security and confidentiality of such applications are also proving to be a barrier to higher uptake.

"Moreover, many companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), are reluctant to invest in new technologies unless they are convinced that they will positively impact their ROI," explains Sciarrotta.

Operators are attempting to address the issue of high cost of handsets and solutions by developing strategies aimed to reducing prices and promoting the use of business applications. In this way, operators could be successful in capturing the interest of smaller companies for whom price is a major deciding factor and, thereby, expand the market.

At present, operators across the region are focusing on two specific applications: mobile office and sales force automation (SFA). Mobile office applications are believed to have a direct impact on the mobile worker's daily activities and this is likely to boost their popularity. Adoption of mobile office as well as SFA applications is likely to be high initially among large companies, with SMEs following at a later date.

"SFA applications are also expected to have a great impact in the Latin American market," says Sciarrotta. "Providing mobile sales personnel with SFA enables the employee to access real-time, mission-critical sales information, product information, company intranets and other features from their handheld devices, thus is placing them in a more competitive situation."

Latin America Mobile Enterprise Market, part of the Mobile & Wireless Subscription, provides an overview of the mobile enterprise markets in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela, including key information such as drivers, restraints, challenges and trends that are likely to impact the current status of the market.
