SAND Technology Closes Out 2006 With Significant Customer, Partner and Product Milestones
24 December 2006
SAND Technology, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SNDTF.OB), an international provider of intelligent enterprise information management solutions, announced today that in 2006 it has increased its customer base and channel partners, demonstrating market traction for its SAND/DNA product suite, including the SAND/DNA offering for SAP BI. Rising adoption of the company's intelligent information management solutions demonstrates the driving need enterprises have to manage explosive data growth in transaction processing and data warehouse environments to provide executives, managers and business analysts with timely access to data, and at lower total cost of ownership. Other key SAND milestones include an expanded global channel and footprint in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions. "SAND has successfully demonstrated, through its customers and partner traction, that its technology addresses what is truly a significant challenge for today's enterprises that face tremendous pressure to keep up with regulatory, compliance and everyday business demands," said Mark Smith, Ventana Research. "As organizational data continues to grow in both size and complexity, businesses need rapid, cost-effective access to that data, regardless of where it is stored. SAND's intelligent information management technology allows companies to leverage their data -- quickly and cost-efficiently -- across the enterprise." << SAND 2006 Milestones >> SAND further bolstered its industry position with the introduction of the SAND/DNA product suite including SAND/DNA for SAP BI, delivered through an expanding global channel; industry certifications; and traction with new vertical markets. SAND highlights for 2006 include: << Launch of Powerful Intelligent Information Management Platform SAND combined its core SAND/DNA Access and SAND/DNA Analytics products to create a comprehensive platform for advanced information management technology that works seamlessly to manage extensive data stores. This tight integration of SAND's core products provides fast access to and highly efficient utilization of data in enterprise environments and large data warehouses. SAND/DNA enables enterprise customers in industries such as energy, healthcare, telco, government, financial services, retail, and global transportation to cost-effectively retain massive amounts of highly compressed data -- typically up to 10 percent of its original size -- in a nearline repository for extended periods, in accordance with any applicable business rules and regulatory requirements, and to rapidly retrieve information when needed. A centralized data management solution with unparalleled performance and storage efficiency, the SAND/DNA suite dramatically reduces costs and management complexity while ensuring continuous data availability. Penetration into SAP User Market: SAND Introduces SAND/DNA for SAP BI SAND announced the availability of SAND/DNA(TM) for use with SAP NetWeaver(R) Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI), a new product specifically designed to complement the data lifecycle management capabilities available to organizations as their data warehouse solutions grow in size. Users can now move infrequently used data into a nearline repository, where it is stored in a highly compressed format while remaining easily accessible. As a result, storage costs are reduced without compromising users' ability to access granular historical data. SAND/DNA for SAP BI is able to seamlessly integrate huge amounts of detail data into SAP NetWeaver BI to support rapid, comprehensive analysis, regardless of database size and sophistication. "Through SAND's data compression and schema management capabilities, an SAP NetWeaver BI archive based on SAND/DNA can be maintained and used more like an online database than an offline archive," said Joshua Greenbaum, principal of Enterprise Applications Consulting (EAC). "The ability to use the same query tools, and to do so using online disk storage instead of mounting tapes, means the SAP NetWeaver BI user's experience of SAND/DNA - and therefore the quality of the overall analysis - can be expected to be vastly superior to that offered by the standard archiving systems in use today." Product Certifications and Benchmarks (*) SAP Certification: SAND announced that SAND/DNA was certified by SAP as an integrated ABAP add-on with SAP NetWeaver(R) Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver(R) BI), version 3.x and achieving "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" status. The certification from SAP marked an exciting step forward in the partnership with SAP, as well as SAND's commitment to successful compliance with SAP's ABAP technology standards as part of SAND/DNA to help reduce total cost of ownership for SAP NetWeaver based platform customers. (*) Sun Benchmark Testing: SAND announced support for the Sun Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS) and its AMD Opteron processor- based system. The combination of Sun's platform and SAND's software products helps customers reach their performance goals for managing and accessing multiple terabytes of data more easily than ever before. Performance tests demonstrated load speeds of greater then 1 terabyte per hour and query speeds of 2 terabytes per minute, processing 75 million rows per second. (*) Interoperability with NetApp: SAND/DNA for SAP BI was tested and proven to run on NetApp(R) storage systems, expanding customer storage options for SAND/DNA deployment. SAND software also demonstrated interoperability with NetApp SnapLock(R) software, which prevents record deletion or alteration until a specified retention date. The compatibility of the two solutions offers joint SAP customers a high-performance compliance solution that helps enable rapid access to data that must be kept available for regulatory purposes. Customer Traction >> SAND enjoyed key initial adoption of SAND/DNA Access, SAND/DNA Analytics and SAND/DNA for SAP BI across the globe. Some customer wins include: << (*) Major energy company Entega Service purchased SAND/DNA for SAP BI as a nearline solution to manage the rapidly growing volumes of data in its SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) environment. Looking for a way to accommodate the expansion of SAP BW, Entega decided to adopt an ILM strategy incorporating a nearline component to limit increases in data size and minimize administrative requirements. Other SAND/DNA for SAP BI adopters include a large Asian telecommunications provider (marking SAND's first Asian sale), a major U.S. government agency, and a large retail European retail company through RI-Solution GmbH. (*) NHN Corporation in Korea (described in BusinessWeek magazine as one of the "hottest Internet search companies on earth") implemented the SAND/DNA Analytics product as the core component of a data warehouse system supporting analysis of Internet portal usage. In addition, a major European telecommunications provider chose SAND/DNA Analytics as the centralized data storage component in a data warehouse system used to analyze user behavior on web portals. The firm cited the SAND product's flexibility, high rate of data compression and excellent data load and query performance as the reasons for their decision. Strengthening Deal Flow through the Channel >> SAND concentrated on filling out its channel efforts with newly established partnerships with hardware companies, resellers, system integrators, and software vendors. << (*) SAND has integrated its SAND/DNA Access for SAP NetWeaver BI offering with Open Text Livelink ECM Suite for SAP Solutions. This integration creates an environment in which SAND/DNA Access users can more easily and cost-effectively access nearline and archived data required for analytic purposes. The three-tiered environment will support active data kept online to satisfy day-to-day reporting requirements, nearline data for long-term analysis and/or rebuilding of warehouse information layers, and archived historical data, all seamlessly supported by the integrated combination of SAP NetWeaver BI, SAND/DNA Access and Open Text's Livelink ECM. (*) SAND and Sun Microsystems began working together to offer the SAND/DNA Access nearline data storage solution as part of a "pre- bundle" for SAP BW users. The Sun and SAND solution will enable SAP users to more efficiently manage large volumes of data that could impede performance of operational data warehouse processes while reducing their storage costs. (*) SAND signed a distribution agreement with WG Systems, a leading IT Solutions provider in Brazil, marking its expansion into the Latin American market. WG Systems will resell and promote SAND Technology's SAND/DNA Access(TM) and SAND/DNA Analytics(TM) software products in their Brazilian territory which includes customers in the financial services, telecommunications and manufacturing industries. (*) SAND and KXEN, a leader in descriptive and predictive analytics, signed a partnering agreement to jointly promote each other's products for advanced analytical applications. The two firms have already combined to deliver powerful analytical CRM solutions to a number of large customers. (*) In addition to securing its first customer win in the Asian market, SAND further established its presence there by signing a reseller deal with DBDSynergy, which will distribute the SAND/DNA product suite in Japan. Event Highlights >> SAND executives were sought after for industry conferences this year, including: << (*) 2006 SAP Analyst Summit: SAND was invited to speak at SAP's exclusive Analyst Summit in December, presenting with Lothar Schubert on Business Information Management with SAP NetWeaver. (*) TDWI World Conference: SAND's Dr. Michael Hahne led an educational course on SAP Business Information Warehouse in May at The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) World Conference. TDWI is the premier event for business intelligence and data warehousing education. >> "Looking back at this year, we are very pleased with how the companies key products have gained critical early acceptance and adoption and how the market is responding to the value that an intelligent information management solution such as ours can deliver," said Arthur Ritchie, president and CEO, SAND Technology. "We look forward to building on the momentum we've achieved in 2006 and expanding the delivery of our industry-leading technology to large enterprises grappling with the real-world challenge of effective information management with corporate data that is exploding in both size and complexity." << About SAND Technology >> SAND is an international provider of intelligent information management software.
