International Datacasting Corporation: ESA Awards International Datacasting Contract for Development of Next-Generation DVB-S2 Products

30 November 2006

International Datacasting Corporation (TSX: IDC) today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) for a research and development project for the next generation of DVB-S2 satellite multicasting products. The objective of the project is to plan and develop an extension of IDC's DVB-S2 product line capable of reaching ultra-high throughput performance and multi carrier operation. This project will build on IDC's recently released DVB-S2 line of receivers that are very much in demand for a variety of point-to-multipoint broadband datacasting applications that include IPTV, digital cinema, digital radio networks, syndicated television and HDTV.

Under their "Telecom Start-up Project Initiative", ESA Telecom plays an investment role by supporting the development of new satellite systems and technologies in preparation for future services. ESA Telecom promotes and contributes to the competitiveness of the European and Canadian private sector by providing a lead in research and development (R&D) activities and by forging partnerships within the industry.

IDC President and CEO, Ron Clifton said, "We are pleased to have been awarded this contract by the European Space Agency. It was a challenging selection process and we are proud that our innovative approach was recognized and selected. Our recently released DVB-S2 products are already pushing the performance envelope of technology for many applications. This ESA project will help us extend that performance beyond the current state-of-the-art in the industry and will contribute significantly to our ability to meet the expected increase in demand for media-rich bandwidth-intensive applications already being forecasted by industry experts."

The announcement was made at the annual Satellite and Content Delivery Conference & Expo (SATCON) held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City - the only major event that focuses on satellite applications for end-users. IDC is exhibiting their latest products and applications at its booth # 132 on Level 1- Exhibit Hall 1A, November 29-30, 2006. The contract is valued at 300,000 Euros and will be jointly funded by IDC and ESA.
