Pennsylvania Attorney General Corbett to Broadcast Live Via Internet and Satellite to Schools Statewide for Kickoff of 'Operation Safe Surf'

Attorney General Tom Corbett will appear live via Internet and satellite on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at 9:30 am to announce the official kickoff of the Internet Safety Program, Operation Safe Surf. The Attorney General will be seen in hundreds of schools across the state with one school from each region of the state serving as an official host site.
As Pennsylvania's top law enforcement officer, Attorney General Corbett has made it a top priority to guard children against sexual predators. As part of this effort Attorney General Corbett is launching Operation Safe Surf to help educate kids, parents and schools about the importance of being safe online.
The broadcast will feature Corbett talking with more than 300 students in Harrisburg at John Harris High School about Internet safety as well as interacting via satellite with students across the state. As part of their discussion, Corbett will show portions of a DVD the Attorney General's Office has put together for middle and high school students, including segments that show an actual victim's story, a portrait of a predator and online safety tips.
Joining the Attorney General to launch Operation Safe Surf at each official host site will be agents from the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit and lawyers from the Pennsylvania and local bar associations to answer students' questions.
While the main broadcast is in Harrisburg, there will be hundreds of schools and students across the state tuning in to listen to the Attorney General show them how to be smart and safe while surfing the Internet. The seven host school sites are located across the state in Erie, Flourtown, Hollidaysburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading and Wilkes-Barre.
