BellSouth to Eliminate DSL Service Fee and Verizon Brings Hyper-Fast Internet Connections to Gresham Customers
29 August 2006
Internet Service Provider industry news provided by Financial News USA (OTC: FNWU). Under pressure from the Federal Communications Commission, BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS) said Friday that it will stop collecting a $2.97 per month regulatory fee from its high-speed Internet customers. The company made the announcement after learning the FCC had begun investigating whether the carrier and Verizon Communications Inc. were violating federal truth-in-billing laws. "Hitch," "24" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" are among the movies and television shows that Time Warner s (NYSE:TWX) AOL will sell through its new video portal under deals the Internet company has forged with major Hollywood studios. The partnerships, announced Thursday, represent AOL's latest efforts to become the destination for online video as the company tries to offset revenues it expects to lose from a recent decision to drop subscription fees for many high-speed customers. Verizon (NYSE:VZ) customers can experience breathtaking high-speed Internet access as the company expands its Verizon FiOS (FYE'-ose) suite of Internet services to Gresham. FiOS services are now available to approximately 500 customers in Gresham, and Verizon will soon offer FiOS services in additional areas of Gresham and Troutdale. The company plans to pass 16,000 homes with its FTTP (fiber-to-the premises) network by year-end in east Multnomah County. FTTP technology utilizes fiber-optic connections -- instead of copper wire -- directly into homes and businesses to enable a broad array of voice, data and video applications. Zaldiva (TM), Inc. (OTC BB:ZLDV), an online retailer of new and vintage Pop Culture collectibles, is pleased to announce that its retail location is almost completed. The interior of the building is basically completed and exterior finishes are in place. The parking lot and landscaping are being installed and management is preparing for the final occupancy inspection. Once the inspection is completed Zaldiva will receive its Certificate of Occupancy (CO) and the occupational license will follow.
