Exports of 2.5G and 3G Phones from Mainland China and Taiwan Top 207 Million Units - 28 Percent of Total Global Shipments

Mainland China and Taiwan exported over 207 million 2.5G and 3G phones in 2005 -- 28 percent of the world total, according to Global Sources' (Nasdaq: GSOL) China Sourcing Report: 2.5G & 3G Phones ( http://www.chinasourcingreports.com ) . Findings are based on in-depth manufacturer interviews, factory visits and surveys. Report publisher, Mark Saunderson, said: "Surveyed makers in mainland China expect to increase output by an average of 44 percent this year. Taiwan makers were far less positive with makers projecting output increases of 8.5 percent on average." Manufacturers Developing Value-Added 2.5G and 3G Phones to Boost Exports Mainland China makers are focusing on midrange and high-end mobile phones to grab a bigger share of overseas markets. Among surveyed mainland China manufacturers: -- 90 percent are enhancing camera resolution; -- 90 percent are integrating A/V capability, and; -- 70 percent are increasing LCD resolution. Taiwan makers will continue to emphasize feature-rich models as they cater to OEM and ODM buyers. Among surveyed Taiwan manufacturers: -- 92 percent are increasing LCD resolution; -- 92 percent are working on Bluetooth/Wi-Fi functionality, and; -- 83 percent are increasing the number of display colors.
