New Web Site Uses Expert System to Advance Online Gift Searching

4 July 2006

Walnut Creek, CA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) July 3, 2006 -- A new website offers consumers a sophisticated tool to search for gifts online. LazyGift.com (http://www.LazyGift.com) includes an extensive set of criteria to narrow down the pool of appropriate gift products, making shopping online faster, easier and a lot less frustrating.

«We wanted to make finding the right gift as pleasant an experience as possible, so we put a full-fledged expert system behind the Web site,» explained LazyGift VP of Public Relations Alena Glaezer. «LazyGift offers you only relevant product choices based on what you know about the gift recipient.»

Purchasing products through the Internet has long been touted as a way to save consumers time by avoiding driving to crowded stores and standing in long lines. That may be true if you know exactly what you want. But finding that perfect gift for your new father-in-law or that hard-to-please boss can be a different matter. Shoppers frequently find themselves spending hours scrolling through many pages of irrelevant offerings on different sites and ending up, exasperated, grabbing the car keys for a trip to the mall after all.

But LazyGift provides a wide array of criteria so that its gift finding engine can sift through thousands of gift choices, selecting only the most appropriate products to display. This more sophisticated approach takes the stress out of finding the right gift.

Despite its name, the website isn't just for the lazy, said Glaezer. «It's really for anyone who values their time and wants to shop efficiently.»

A number of other shopping websites allow consumers to choose criteria such as age range and sex of the recipient, product category, and sometimes holiday or special occasion and price range. However, LazyGift includes additional categories, such as personality, gift type and areas of interest, with lengthy lists of gift or recipient attributes in many of these categories.

Moreover, the categories are modified as you go along, preventing contradictory criteria, listing only the relevant choices. For example, you can't choose gifts for female infants celebrating Father's Day. Moreover, once you choose an age group, other appropriate criteria choices appear. For instance, by selecting «adult,» you get to choose among two separate personality categories, the first with 47 choices and the second with 59. «Always prepared,» «experimental», «forgetful,» «practical» and «mystical» are among the choices. And so are «gadget guru,» «likes to throw parties,» and even «recently laid off» and «mid-life crisis.»

The list of 30 «gift types» ranges from «fashionable» to «geeky» and «luxurious» to «do-it-yourself.» Many of the category lists are modified depending on the age group or sex of the recipient.

Despite this seeming complexity, the site is easy to use, and shoppers can work with as many or as few of the categories as they wish. With just a few clicks, visitors to the site can find hundreds of relevant gifts. It's also simple to modify or remove any of the various criteria.

Once a product is selected, the shopper is taken directly to the item on the seller's website to make the purchase. The gifts offered on the website are chosen and entered into the system by LazyGift's editorial staff from thousands of gifts on the Web. The editors add a variety of new gifts to the inventory daily. The company plans on having several thousand gifts available through Gift Ideas Finder – LazyGift by the end of the year.

LazyGift.com is managed by LazyGift, LLC, a private company in Walnut Creek, CA.
