Governor Rendell Launches Comprehensive Web Site Providing Flood Recovery Information
2 July 2006
Governor Edward G. Rendell said today Pennsylvania has created a new Web site to help Pennsylvania families affected by flooding find the help they need. The Web site is http://www.paflooding.state.pa.us. "People need immediate help and this new Web site can help them save time because it provides a full array of information on how to quickly apply for disaster recovery assistance," the Governor said. "After seeing the devastation that affected so many areas of the commonwealth, hundreds of thousands of people are scrambling to find help. "The PAflooding Web site we're launching today is a good starting point for anyone to find answers," the Governor added, while touring some of the most heavily flooded areas of the state today. The Web site, which also offers health and safety advisories, travel updates, and the latest forecasts, packages information and application forms for some of the most useful programs in delivering individual or public assistance, as well as contact information for federal agencies and the American Red Cross. Visitors will also find helpful pamphlets that deliver critical information about flood insurance, stream stabilization and the hazard mitigation program. The Governor's remarks came as he surveyed flood damage in Bucks, Columbia, Lehigh and Susquehanna counties. Governor Rendell touched down in each area to assess the situation from the ground and receive updated briefings from local officials and emergency management coordinators. Each of the four counties visited were declared federal disaster areas yesterday by President Bush, along with Bradford, Northampton, Northumberland and Wyoming counties. The designation qualifies them for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance. On Thursday, Governor Rendell spoke with the president and requested expedited federal assistance for 34 Pennsylvania counties. The Governor has said he will continue working with the president and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to have the designation assigned to the remaining 22 counties so they can also qualify for federal financial help. The Rendell Administration is committed to creating a first-rate public education system, protecting our most vulnerable citizens and continuing economic investment to support our communities and businesses.
