Businesses Get Free, Self-Controlled Listing

Every business, nonprofit organization and service provider in the states is invited to list business basics for free at www.PinpointPages.com. The most distinctive feature of this local search Web site is that individual organizations can log in and change their information at will, so they are in control of their own listing. There are no pop-ups or banner ads on Pinpoint Pages®. The innovative site does offer an expanded "Web Card" listing that displays more information and a full description written by the organization. The expanded listing costs $9.95 per month and is renewable on a month-by-month basis, so no long-term contract is required. Paying members may list their business in up to seven categories. Free listings choose one primary category.
The site's creator and owner is Albuquerque native Martin Garcia. Years ago, he found a gap in the local information available online while researching cancer specialists for his mother. Garcia began envisioning a local Web site where every service provider could be listed, along with his or her Web site, without having to buy space. In fact, his site offers a more level playing field than traditional search engines, because no one can buy a ranking or use optimization to "pre-fix" where their listing falls in the search results. Results are displayed in a rotating order he calls "RandomRank™."
"For businesses that want to sell nationwide, it makes sense to spend time and money optimizing their Web site and submitting repeatedly to the big search engines like Google," says Garcia. "But for businesses or professionals who serve mainly the local area or the state, putting dollars and energy into that is like paying for a Yellow Pages ad in the Bermuda Triangle.

Garcia's mission has been to make it easier for the average American to find and share information about local resources, to unite community and commerce. Garcia says the final step to make his community reference dream come to fruition is to let organizations know they can list their business for free and look up local businesses on the site.
