Airspan Announces Enhancements to the AS.NET Product Family for the North American Market
28 June 2006
Airspan Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN), aleading worldwide provider of WiMAX-based broadband wireless accessnetworks, carrier class Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP) and Wi-FiHotzone systems, today announced the availability of AS.NET SR2.0enhancements targeted for the North American market. The new higher powerradios and Quality of Service (QoS) features are significant improvementsfor operators looking to expand their coverage area and service offerings. "We have consulted closely with our North American customers and madeimportant improvements to our AS.NET product line," said Dick Lee, VicePresident of Sales for Airspan North America. "The ability to increaserange and offer QoS services for unlicensed-band product is important, asit allows operators to offer the most reliable data and voicecommunications, over a wider coverage area, improving therevenue-generating potential of their networks. These features closelymatch those of our licensed products, which support similar services." The new high power radio is available for all AS.NET access and linkproducts in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The power level isconfigurable, meaning it can be increased or decreased according tospecific customer or regulatory requirements. The maximum transmit power, measured at the RF antenna port, is 26dBm. This enables longer linkdistances with Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) levels up to 46dBmin point-to-point applications, and up to 36dBm EIRP in other deploymentmodels, which is the maximum allowed under FCC regulations. The new radioalso provides improvements in receiver sensitivity, further increasing therange. The new QoS features, based on the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM), a subset of theIEEE 802.11e standard, can be used to improve voice over Wi-Fi services. These features allow each base station to handle up to four differenttraffic queues, which can be configured at different priority levels. As aresult, an operator is able to define different service classes for voice, video or data, or alternatively for different user types such as highpriority and best effort priority, and set tariffs accordingly for eachone. The features are available in all AS.NET access products operating atboth 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The AS.NET SR2.0 enhancements will be available in the third quarter, 2006.The full solution will be demonstrated at the upcoming WCA 2006 show inWashington, DC on June 27 - 30.
