VeriSign Inks Deal with SK Telecom in Asia

22 June 2006

VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks, today announced that SK Telecom, a member of the SK Group and the number one wireless communications provider in South Korea, has signed a multi-year contract to use VeriSign's regional networking services.

SK Telecom will be the third major provider in the region using VeriSign's intelligent infrastructure services, including the VeriSign Signaling System 7 (SS7) network, Intelligent Message Processor and Roamer View services. The solutions will enable the operator to expand its network, increase route diversity and enable advanced roaming services.

VeriSign also announced that it is investing in two new operations centers in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan and establishing local Signaling Transfer Points (STP) and Signaling Control Points (SCP) to extend its SS7 network from the Americas to Asia. The STPs will enable local call traffic to be handled within the region instead of across trans-Atlantic networks. The SCPs will run VeriSign's Intelligent Message Processor applications to support advanced roaming features.

"SK Telecom chose VeriSign for the company's service, quality and reliability and commitment to the Asian market. We wanted network traffic handled locally. By using VeriSign's highly redundant, regional signaling infrastructure in Asia, we can improve performance, reliability and customer satisfaction, while reducing operating costs and overhead," said Yeong Ahn Kim, general manager of SK Telecom's global roaming department.

The operator will also be using VeriSign Roamer View to get real-time, simultaneous visibility into all voice and data roaming messages through a single interface. The solution has superior diagnostic and reporting capabilities that help customer service departments troubleshoot and resolve roaming issues.

"We are pleased to be working with SK Telecom, a leader in Asia and the CDMA community. As VeriSign expands into one of the fastest growing, most innovative regions, SK Telecom is among the first to use VeriSign's managed communications services to create efficiencies, revenues and customer loyalty," said Marshall Towe, vice president for Asia Pacific, VeriSign Communications Services.

VeriSign operates the largest private SS7 network in the Americas with access to more than 500 carriers, with reach into 200 countries. The network supports SIGTRAN, SIP, ENUM, GSM and ANSI-41 and other protocols and provides access to multiple intelligent database services that wireline and wireless providers can use to maximize the value of IP and switch-based networks.
