Cingular Increases Niagara Falls Cell Coverage in Time for Summer

20 June 2006

The nation's largest wireless carrier continues to grow its network in greater Buffalo and western New York. Cingular Wireless today announced the addition of five new cell sites in the Buffalo-Niagara region, providing enhanced cellular coverage for Niagara and Erie Counties.

"With over 12 million visitors a year, we know that summer tourism is particularly important to the city of Niagara Falls. It was a priority for us to have our improvements in place in time for the season. Vacationers and residents alike will now enjoy better Cingular coverage in the area," said Robert Holliday, Cingular Wireless Vice President and General Manager, upstate New York. "We will continue to invest in western New York to ensure our customers have the best experience possible."

Cingular customers in Niagara Falls, New York now benefit from a new site that improves coverage on Niagara Falls Boulevard and the La Salle Expressway. Another new cell site provides better service in Lewiston along Route 249 and on Upper Mountain Road.

Cingular has also activated a new site in Erie County on the Hamburg Water Tank that brings enhanced reception to the town of Hamburg as well as along Routes 62 and 391 in the southern tier.

Two additional new cell sites in Alden and Cambria are currently under construction and are expected to go online within the next few weeks. These sites will improve service in Alden on Routes 20, 578, 727 and 354 and in Cambria along the busy Lockport Road-Robinson Road corridor.

While continuing its network expansion in Buffalo-Niagara, Cingular is also adding new cell sites in the Syracuse, Watertown, Ithaca, Binghamton, Elmira, Albany and Rochester areas. As a result of its merger with AT&T Wireless, Cingular customers now enjoy the benefit more than 775 fully- integrated cell sites across upstate New York.

Last year Cingular invested more than $122 million to build and integrate over 275 cell sites in the upstate region. The company plans to spend an additional $60 million in 2006 to further enhance its network. Nationally, Cingular will invest more than $6 billion expanding and enhancing its network this year. When combined with the company's 2005 network spending, the two- year total approaches $13 billion nationally.
