Cingular Wireless Turns on New Cell Site in Taylor County

Cingular Wireless has expanded coverage in southern Taylor County with the activation of a new cell site in Steinhatchee. The site is providing coverage in town and along State Highways 361, 358 and 51.

The new Steinhatchee cell site is one of 40 new sites to be turned on this year in North, Central and West Florida by the nation's largest wireless carrier. The sites, along with the recent completion of the integration of the AT&T Wireless and Cingular networks throughout North, Central and West Florida, are part of a $370 million network investment statewide. Network integration in South Florida will be completed this summer.

"Quality and coverage are everything in our business," said Dan Norman, vice-president and general manager for Cingular's West, Central and North Florida markets. "It's great to see the investments we're making in our network are paying off for our customers."

Cingular also plans to roll out its third-generation (3G) high-speed broadband wireless network this summer. The service provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 kilobits per second on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.
