However, the stereotype for someone seeking their true love via international online dating sites is still less than flattering. According to a recent survey conducted by AnastasiaWeb, one of the industry's leading and fastest growing American-Russian online dating sites, this stereotype could not be farther from the truth.

Online dating has become more accepted over the last few years. A leading UK-based dating and friendship site, MakeFriendsOnline.com, recently conducted a survey in which 80 percent of the 10,500 respondents over the age of 30 said that they actively use online dating sites. Only five years ago similar surveys revealed that less than 10 percent of the respondents admitted to using Internet dating services. So why the change? Comments from respondents suggest that this is largely because the Internet is now an integral and accepted part of everyday life.

Nearly half of respondents (48%) could be profiled as professionals (business owners, doctors, lawyers etc.), living in urban areas (53%), annual income over $100,000 (58%), under the age of 40 (55%), exercising at least one-hour per day (35%), driving mid-class sedans or better (70%), preferring upscale/designer clothing (37%), enjoying luxury resort/hotel vacations (48%).
According to spokesperson, Daniel Jordan, AnastasiaWeb also offers travel packages that help bring couples together in a secure and comfortable atmosphere, by organizing social events and site-seeing tours with other couples. "These travel packages can easily cost more than five thousand dollars and we have more than 500 clients per year. This shows that American-Russian online dating is becoming more attractive to an affluent market," says Daniel.
With online dating rapidly becoming a more accepted and comfortable meeting point, it seems Russian-American online dating will also continue to attract a more diverse demographic. Maybe, the time has come to reconsider the old stereotypes and realize that quite normal, sophisticated and successful men are simply seeking a beautiful and intelligent woman.
