25 April 2006
Global Sources (Nasdaq: GSOL) will hold its new China Sourcing Fair: Gifts & Home Products in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 11-13, 2007 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The sourcing trade show will help China's suppliers sell direct to buyers in the world's third-largest re-export hub. Hinrichs, said: ''China is Dubai's number-one trade partner, with Dubai importing more than US$12 billion worth of goods from China in the past five years. ''Our export customers know that Dubai is the gateway to the Middle East, North Africa and India. Suppliers will be able to sell direct to re-export traders, importers, wholesalers and retailers in the center of the dynamic trade hub. Dubai is the perfect next step for the China Sourcing Fairs, following their great success in Hong Kong.'' Director-Asia Pacific Region from Dubai Development and Investment Authority, Arif Mubarak, said: ''The U.A.E.'s seven emirates have a combined GDP of US$67.7 billion. Dubai alone accounts for over US$30 billion and boasts an open economy free of exchange controls, quotas and trade barriers. ''The economy is booming: Non-oil foreign trade increased by 40 percent from 2003 to 2004. Over the next five years, the Department of Commerce expects more than US$100 billion to be spent on home, retail shopping malls and tourism projects, including hotels and a new airport. ''We see the China Sourcing Fair: Gifts & Home Products as a great way to help meet this demand. It will also grow trade and strengthen relationships between Dubai and China.'' The China Sourcing Fair will be held in June, outside of Asia's busy April and October buying seasons. This will allow suppliers to meet international buyers coming to the Fairs in Hong Kong, and then meet new buyers in Dubai. Product scope ranges from gifts, premiums and toys to kitchen, household and consumer electronics. A special Baby & Children's Products pavilion will allow manufacturers to supply the Middle East baby boom, where birth rates range from 18 percent to 43 percent -- double and triple that of many Western nations. Speaking at yesterday's signing ceremony at AsiaWorld-Expo, Christina Anthony, General Manager-Commercial of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), said: ''We see interest growing in Dubai for specialized sourcing shows such as the China Sourcing Fair. We're delighted to help bring this professional show to the DWTC -- the leading exhibition venue in the Middle East. ''The DWTC is 15 minutes from the Airport -- which is projected to cater to 60 million passengers next year -- making the venue easily accessible within a few hours to major economies throughout the region.'' Global Sources is offering suppliers a special China Sourcing Fair exhibition package that includes booths space, marketing, travel and entertainment.
