Intel and Monster Join the Z-Wave Alliance as Principal Members

22 April 2006

The Z-Wave Alliance, a consortium of leaders in the digital home market dedicated to solidifying Z-Wave as the standard for wireless home control products, today announced the addition of Intel Corporation and Monster as principal members. The Z-Wave Alliance is comprised of 125+ companies that are actively developing Z-Wave products and technologies for residential home control applications. This marks the first addition of principal members since the Alliance was formed in January 2005 by Zensys, Leviton, Intermatic, Wayne Dalton, Danfoss and UEI.

"The industry is at the tipping point of the wireless home control space and we decided to join the Z-Wave Alliance for three important reasons: significant time-to-market advantage, the number of companies that already have Z-Wave enabled products on the market, and the interoperability of Z-Wave technology," said Noel Lee, the Head Monster. "The digital home is a reality and we look forward to working with the other Alliance members to solidify Z-Wave as the standard in home controls and automation."

Z-Wave is a low-cost, two-way, wireless mesh network communications technology that enables consumers to monitor and manage their home control systems -- lighting, security systems, thermostats, garage door openers, entertainment systems -- easily, conveniently and securely from anywhere in the world. The technology is developed by Zensys, a wireless technology developer for home control applications.

"We are thrilled to be announcing the addition of global companies such as Intel and Monster as principal members of the Alliance," said Steve Troyer, chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance and vice president of marketing for Zensys. "With Intel as a leader in digital home technologies and Monster doing the same in entertainment control, their support builds upon the Z-Wave momentum."

"We are pleased to join the Z-Wave Alliance," said Gerald Holzhammer, vice president, Digital Home Group and general manager, Consumer PC Platform Group, Intel. "Z-Wave enabled products are easy to use and interoperable right off the shelf, which are key attributes to Intel's overall vision of the digital home."

Unlike competing protocols, Z-Wave is a fully developed, interoperable technology that is present in more than 100 wireless home control products on the market today. Products based on the Z-Wave platform include dimmers, switches, appliance modules, remote controls, thermostats and USB devices.
