Verizon Wireless' New York Metro Network Ready to Hit One Out of the Park This Baseball Season
10 April 2006
New York baseball fans headed to Yankee Stadium this month can rely on the Verizon Wireless network to talk and TXT to friends and family to share in the excitement of game day. A new cell site in the Bronx will improve Verizon Wireless digital capacity around Yankee Stadium and north to McClellan Street, between the Major Deegan and the Grand Concourse. These ongoing network enhancements will enable more customers heading to the games to use their wireless phones concurrently. The improvements also enable New York baseball fans to experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, send TXT and Picture Messages, view streaming video or download games and ring tones before, during and after the games. Verizon Wireless invested $2 billion to enhance its New York Metro area network and more than $30 billion across the nation in the past six years to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Verizon Wireless also deploys a coast-to-coast fleet of test vehicles managed by Verizon Wireless engineers who continuously test the network and identify areas for improvement. The engineers conduct more than four million calls annually on the Verizon Wireless network and other national wireless carriers' networks while traveling more than one million miles across the nation.
