EMS Wireless Unveils First Broadband Antenna in Cobra Antenna Series Supporting the UMTS Spectrum
9 April 2006
CTIA WIRELESS 2006 Booth #5843 -- EMS Wireless, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), is announcing today at CTIA Wireless 2006 the first broadband antenna in its Cobra(tm) (COntrollaBle Radiating Aperture) Series line of vertical electrical downtilt antennas. Designed to operate in the frequency spectrum 1710-2180 MHz, the QuadPol(tm) Cobra antenna can support both the soon-to-be-released 1700 MHz and 2100 frequencies, along with the traditional 1900 MHz spectrum. It already can be used over existing 1900 MHz GSM and CDMA networks. That means this same antenna can be used where new UMTS spectrum is utilized while continuing to be deployed for existing 1900 MHz coverage. "By focusing on both the high and low ends of the frequency band, we are able to ensure that coverage remains consistent for both uplink and downlink sides of a call," says Gerald Hickman, senior vice president and general manager, EMS Wireless. "With this latest antenna product, we are easing the transition to UTMS so operators can easily make the switch over to the new spectrum later this year without having to invest in new antennas." Featuring two crosspol 45-degree antenna networks within a single 12"-wide antenna package, the QuadPol Cobra antenna promises to save operators' time and costs related to zoning and recurring leases by reducing the number of physical antennas at a cell site. In addition, the antenna has a return loss of 17.5 dB across the entire band. The product is a continuation of the EMS Wireless Cobra line of antennas that allow operators to vertically adjust the elevation-pointing direction of the antenna for optimization of their networks. EMS Wireless will feature a live demo of the new antenna at CTIA Booth No. 5843, where visitors can see how the coverage pattern changes as the antenna's elevation is tilted.
