Joint Development from Harris Corporation and Rockwell Collins Allows Warfighters to Link to U.S. Air Force High Frequency Global Communications Syste

1 April 2006

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) and Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) today announced that they have completed product and system developments that enable users of the Harris Falcon(R) II AN/PRC-150(C) high-frequency (HF) radio and RF-6700 series of Wireless Message Terminal (WMT) products to interoperate with the U.S. Air Force High Frequency Global Communications System (HFGCS), also known as SCOPE Command. HFGCS is a highly automated, high-frequency HF communication system that links U.S. Air Force command and control (C2) functions with globally deployed strategic and tactical airborne- and ground-based platforms.

Harris has incorporated a new feature in the AN/PRC-150(C) that permits the user to call and link to a HFGCS ground station using MIL-STD-188-141B Automatic Link Establishment (ALE), providing automated voice access to any Defense Switched Network (DSN) telephone. HFGCS subscribers can also exchange classified email with the Department of Defense's (DoD) Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET) and unclassified e-mail with the DoD Non- classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET) using the RF-6700 series of Wireless Message Terminal products in conjunction with an AN/PRC-150(C).

Rockwell Collins, in cooperation with the HFGCS Program Office, has incorporated modifications to several components of the HFGCS ground stations that enable AN/PRC-150(C) users to access the network, including crypto setting and HF email software changes.

The HFGCS network consists of 15 worldwide HF stations interconnected through various military and commercial telecommunications media. The system provides a gateway between HFGCS subscribers and the NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and DSN.

The Harris AN/PRC-150(C) HF manpack radio provides customers with secure, long-range voice and data capabilities even in the harshest conditions. The radio has become the long-range combat net radio of choice for U.S. forces. Its embedded information security features enable secure ground-to-ground and ground-to-air communications in all HF modes and in fixed-frequency modes with SINCGARS radios.

The Harris RF-6700 series of Wireless Message Terminal products provides the capability to transparently send error-free messages, files, and images over HF, VHF, and UHF radio links. The embedded NATO standard STANAG 5066 capability provides interoperable e-mail communications for more than 30 countries worldwide.

Rockwell Collins is a worldwide leader in the design, production, and support of communication and aviation electronics for commercial and government customers. The company's 17,000 employees in 27 countries deliver industry-leading communication, navigation, surveillance, display, flight control, in-flight entertainment, information management, and maintenance, training and simulation solutions.
