TCS Teams With SAP to Provide Wireless Access to Critical SAP(R) Solutions

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.(TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission critical wirelesscommunications, today announced it has teamed with SAP, the world's leadingprovider of business software solutions. The teaming relationship providesSAP customers with the ability to reach back over secure wireless networksfrom remote locations to their central offices to access the strength ofSAP® applications crucial to their work. This teaming relationship alsoprovides SAP with a comprehensive tool for customers requiring wirelessaccess to SAP software solutions.


SAP for Defense & Security is based on an open architecture that addressesthe national goals of expanding regional collaboration and strengtheninginformation-sharing capabilities. TCS provides end-to-end wirelessnetworking, Internet Protocol (IP) transport and encryption via itsSwiftLink® products, satellite services and gateways to enableinteroperable communications for remote users of SAP applications.SwiftLink deployable communications suite is a modular solution designed toimprove information exchange by providing a seamless, secure andinterconnected information environment, meeting the user's real-time needs.

Incident commanders and decision-makers can now remotely use tools for SAPsolutions to rapidly assess an incident, respond with the appropriateresources, and then manage the recovery and restoration process. Incidentcommands at county, state and federal levels each have unique views intothe same data, allowing decision-makers to maintain situational awarenessthrough tailored displays and alerts; exchange information with the othertask levels, jurisdictions and agencies; and share resources through acollaborative environment. The SAP approach ties core SAP modules togetherwith existing systems, decision support tools, and geo-spatial displays toprovide commanders and managers with the tools and information to makeinformed and timely decisions in order to help first responders secure theresources they require to save lives and protect critical infrastructure.

TCS SwiftLink products and wireless services provide a suite of solutionsvia its deployable communications systems that are packaged in ruggedcarry-cases ranging from briefcase sizes up to cases that meet airlinecarry-on baggage requirements. Teaming with SAP provides for the use ofseveral SwiftLink models. In addition, TCS provides SwiftLink GlobalSatellite Services (SGSS) for global satellite coverage to broadbandapplications that need to be extended from the home office to the remoteoffice.


The SwiftLink suite allows a deployed Incident Command Post to be set uprapidly with an integrated communications network to manage the incidentwithin 30 minutes, even when the existing communications infrastructure isdestroyed or otherwise unavailable. TCS' SwiftLink solution provides thecapability to establish a private cellular telephone network, a localwireless Local Area Network (LAN), radio communications and broadbandsatellite communications through man portable devices. All communicationscan be secured with NSA-type I or commercial encryption, if required.Therefore, an incident commander will have reliable voice, data and videocommunications even when the existing communications infrastructure isdamaged or destroyed.
