SonicWALL Vulnerability Team Acts at Lightning Speed to Secure Users Against Remote Code Execution Hole in Internet Explorer
27 March 2006
Following the identification of a code execution hole in Microsoft(TM) Internet Explorer, SonicWALL, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNWL) has issued signatures to protect users of its Internet threat prevention technology from the vulnerability. Defined as "highly critical," the flaw in the Internet Explorer application could allow remote attackers to exploit the issue, for example by crashing affected browsers, taking control of the affected machine remotely to use for spam or phishing, stealing data, or using the computer to attack others. SonicWALL today created two Intrusion Prevention signatures (SID:3158 and SID:3159) to detect and prevent this function. "These signatures have been automatically downloaded to users of our threat prevention services to protect them from the code execution hole," said Boris Yanovsky, vice president of security services and applications at SonicWALL. "No action is required by our users. Microsoft has yet to release a patch for this vulnerability and a Proof of Concept Exploit is circulating in the wild." SonicWALL, named the leader in Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances worldwide for the third consecutive quarter, according to IDC's Worldwide Q3 Security Appliance Tracker, December 2005, delivers zero day gateway anti-virus and intrusion prevention signatures to its subscribers on a continual basis, to defend against new and existing Internet attacks and exploit.
