Over 11 million cell phones are retired each month in the US and because of their size, most can easily make it to your local waste stream. In support of new state recycling laws many California communities are banning their disposal in local landfills.
Recently a ban went into effect in Yolo County California. Beginning February 9th residents are prohibited from disposing hazardous wastes items in their everyday garbage. Instead, hazardous waste items, including cell phones, must be recycled.
