Equifax Featured in Firewall Starring Harrison Ford

10 February 2006

Equifax Inc. (NYSE: EFX) today announced that it will be featured in the upcoming action thriller Firewall, from Warner Bros. Pictures. Set for release on February 10, Firewall stars Harrison Ford, who discovers that a thief has stolen his identity while reviewing his Equifax Credit Report(TM). Warner Brothers' production team approached Equifax to ensure that Firewall's representation of the Equifax Credit Report was as accurate as possible.

"I think this film will speak to individuals because identity theft is a real problem and something that consumers face everyday," said Richard Loncraine, Director of Firewall. "If you need to find out if your identity has been compromised or stolen, one of the best ways to do that is with Equifax."

Firewall illustrates the devastating effects of identity theft at a time when awareness about the need to guard and protect personal information is critical," said Steve Ely, group executive, Personal Solutions, Equifax. "Since identity theft is on the rise and can affect anyone at any time, credit monitoring is an important step for enabling early detection."

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft affects nearly 10 million people each year. Since it often involves no theft of physical property, identity theft may go unnoticed until significant damage has been done -- often several months and thousands of dollars later. Early detection through a comprehensive credit monitoring service such as Equifax Credit Watch(TM) can be the best defense. Equifax Credit Watch serves as an early warning detection system that alerts consumers to key changes to their Equifax Credit Report, in most cases before identity thieves can do significant damage.

"Time is a crucial factor when a consumer is a potential identity theft victim," said identity theft expert and former FBI agent Kevin Barrows. "With tools and technologies available today from companies such as Equifax, consumers gain a unique advantage over identity thieves looking to prey on their most valuable asset."

The release of Firewall coincides with National Consumer Protection Week (February 5-11). Sponsored by government agencies and highlighting consumer protection and education initiatives across the nation, the week brings increased awareness to important issues affecting consumers such as identity theft and fraud. Equifax has a long-standing history of educating consumers on the importance of credit management and ways to protect against identity theft and fraud.

"Taking a proactive approach to credit management and knowing how to protect themselves from identity thieves should be top of mind for consumers at all times," said Ely. To learn more about ways to guard against identity theft, visit http://www.equifax.com.
