Vyyo Announces 'Certified Compatible' Program; Cannon, Hunt, Powel, RuggedCom Products Selected for Inclusion
5 February 2006
Vyyo Inc. (Nasdaq: VYYO), a global supplier of broadband access equipment for cable and private wireless broadband network solutions, today announced the creation of a new program designed to ensure successful implementation of multi-vendor wireless solutions that include Vyyo products. The "Vyyo Certified Compatible" program has been designed to offer additional assurance to utility customers that specific products have been tested, or field-proven, and certified as interoperable with Vyyo wireless utility solution products. The Vyyo solution combines 700 MHz licensed spectrum with the company's V3000 broadband wireless hub and compatible modems to provide greater efficiency by replacing legacy dial-up monitoring with cost-effective, high-speed wireless data services. Cannon Technologies, Inc.'s YUKON(TM) Software and Substation Advisor(R) gateway products; Hunt Technologies' TS1 AMR automatic meter reading system; Powel-MiniMax, Inc.'s ScadaCam remote security and monitoring solution and RuggedCom Inc.'s RuggedSwitch RS400 serial device server are the first to be included in the program. Additional products and solutions will be announced in the near future. "Vyyo Certified Compatible" status assures that utilities using Cannon load management and automated distribution products can seamlessly incorporate Automated Meter Reading (AMR), Demand Management, Electric Substation Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distribution Automation, and Equipment Monitoring functionalities in conjunction with the high-speed, real- time connectivity of the Vyyo broadband wireless solution. "To achieve maximum efficiency, utility providers require monitoring and management solutions that bring together best-of-breed products," said Mike Ritter, Ph.D., chief technology officer and senior vice president of marketing for Vyyo. "Our ability to ensure interoperability of our wireless network with numerous devices gives our customers the flexibility to implement the options that best meet their needs as part of a tested, certified end-to-end solution." "The combination of state-of-the-art monitoring systems and Vyyo's high- speed, always-on, two-way wireless products already dramatically increases the ability of utilities to manage remote substation systems," said Joel Brick, telecom director for Sioux Valley Energy and Sioux Valley Wireless. "By designating products as 'Certified Compatible,' Vyyo is offering even greater levels of assurance to customers regarding the performance and effectiveness of specific solutions." Vyyo's technology is designed to enable management of remote utility locations, including accurate, real-time assessment of consumption, the reduction of excess power generation and the reallocation of power generation. In addition, the Vyyo solution is designed to allow utility customers to generate additional revenues using the same technology by providing high-speed Internet services to rural commercial and residential subscribers. About Cannon Technologies, Inc. Privately held Cannon Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1987 to deliver load management and automated distribution solutions to electric utilities. Cannon is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota -- with branch offices in California, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia. Today Cannon customers include nearly 400 electric utilities across North America. Utilities of all sizes apply Cannon solutions to manage peak load, improve system power factor, read meters remotely, and improve substation reliability. Cannon's YUKON(TM) system is a modular, scalable software suite for metering and managing demand on the distribution system that can be installed locally or hosted remotely and accessed via a secure Internet browser. YUKON(TM) can be used by an energy service company to collect meter data and control peaks; by a distribution company to control power factor and monitor substations; or by corporate customers and meter data companies to aggregate and control load across multiple facilities. When deployed in conjunction with the Vyyo solution, YUKON(TM) also can provide real time video monitoring. About Hunt Technologies Hunt Technologies is the leading global provider of reliable, accurate and fully functional AMR utility data systems. The company features hardware and software products that can be completely integrated into a customer's existing operation and provide customized AMR solutions that meet the diverse needs of customers in urban, suburban and rural settings. Hunt Technologies' TS1 system is an efficient AMR solution that delivers the meter data required for accurate and timely billing. The TS1 solution's continuous endpoint communication provides end-of-line voltage monitoring as well as outage and restoration detection. In addition, Hunt's ultra-narrow- bandwidth (UNB) technology takes advantage of a little-used segment of the very low frequency spectrum band to accurately and reliably transfer data from distant electric, water and gas meters directly to the billing office. About Powel-MiniMax, Inc. Powel-MiniMax provides software solutions to help utilities boost profitability and customer service to entirely new levels. The company's modular Utility Decision Support Platform (UDSP) is the first solution to provide instant, universal access to the information utilities need to optimize business results. About Vyyo Inc. Vyyo provides cable and wireless broadband access solutions. Our products are designed for use by utilities, cable television and telecommunication operators, wireless internet service providers (ISPs) and enterprise. Our wireless broadband solutions enable utilities and other customers to operate private wireless networks for communications to their remote assets and customers. Typical applications include high-speed internet services, SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and telephony (T1/E1) all based on our modified Data Over Cable System Interface Specification (DOCSIS(R)) technology. Our Xtend Networks family of products include cable system spectrum overlay solutions designed to expand cable operators' typical HFC (hybrid-fiber coax) network capacity in the "last mile" by up to 2x in the downstream and up to 10x in the upstream, addressing bandwidth demand for T1 and other advanced services.
