MobilePro Subsidiary NeoReach Selects Strix Systems for City-Wide Wireless Mesh Network in Chandler, Arizona

31 January 2006

Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, today announced that NeoReach Wireless, has selected Strix's Access/One Network Outdoor Wireless System (OWS) for its city-wide wireless mesh deployment in Chandler, AZ. The installation will use Strix's multi-radio, multi-channel, and multi-RF mesh solution, the highest-capacity mesh solution in the industry. Chandler, which is one of Arizona's fastest growing communities, will utilize the Strix solution to support a true multi-use network that will provide secure Wi-Fi access for businesses, residents, and guests, as well as a separate network for municipal workers.

"As we complete the successful deployment of the nation's largest border-to-border network in Tempe, we are preparing to unwire the entire city limits of Chandler," said Ryan McCaigue, director of network engineering for NeoReach, MobilePro's wireless division. "This is a great testament to the scalability of Strix's modular architecture, which is enabling us to simply leverage the existing Tempe network and expand the network throughout Chandler. With the demanding requirements of a network to handle triple-play voice, video and data services, Strix is enabling us to create one large high-performance mesh that meets the needs of both residential and business users alike."

NeoReach's border-to-border wireless network will serve the entire 72-square-mile area of the city and will cover Chandler's 240,000 residents, 90,000 households and estimated 19,000 businesses. The network will extend to the existing Strix mesh network in Tempe, Arizona, which covers an additional 40 square miles. Together, the two cities will have the largest contiguous wireless mesh network in the U.S. The network will allow access to multiple Internet service providers (ISPs) and will be robust enough to provide telephone service via Voice-over-IP (VoIP). A zone in downtown Chandler's merchant district will offer each user two free hours of Internet access daily, which will encourage shoppers to enjoy the downtown area while they are surfing the net. Two free hours of daily service will also be available at Chandler's library and three of the city's largest parks. The Strix wireless network will also enhance Chandler's business offerings -- Chandler bills itself as "The High-Tech Oasis in the Silicon Desert" -- and will enable local businesses to leverage mobility for profit. Consumers will enjoy the freedom of wireless Internet, and workers can leverage the power of online communication and data access while in the field.

"As more and more U.S. cities adopt city-wide Wi-Fi networks, it is only natural that neighboring cities will want to offer similar services," said Nan Chen, Vice President of Marketing at Strix Systems. "Strix's modular, multi-radio, multi-channel, and multi-RF solution is the only system that enables the simple scalability of existing networks to rapidly expand networks to other cities."
