Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study Now Available
18 January 2006
Hospitals and health systems across the country have the opportunity to measure their information technology efforts beginning today with the availability of the 2006 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study at http://www.hhnmostwiredsurvey.com . The survey measures hospital IT activities in five key areas: business processes, customer service, safety and quality, workforce and public health and safety, and provides participants with detailed information on their IT activities. Participating hospitals may be named to the 2006 Hospitals & Health Networks list of the 100 Most Wired when it is released in July 2006. "What began as a recognition program has evolved into an annual national census of IT in hospitals," said Alden Solovy, the magazine's executive editor. "The more hospitals that participate, the better the data." Solovy said that as technology evolves, so does the survey. "There are 11 new questions on this year's survey. We had nearly 20 CIOs assisting with survey development, along with representatives at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the American Hospital Association, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the National Alliance for Health Information Technology. We also had input from our major partners, Accenture and McKesson." The survey is available online and hospitals executives can participate at http://www.hhnmostwiredsurvey.com . The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2006. Every organization that submits a survey receives a benchmarking analysis of their data. "This annual survey is a call to action for the industry and a valuable tool that helps executives take a critical look at their strategy," said Lewis Redd, managing partner, Accenture Health & Life Sciences North American provider practice and one of the 2006 survey sponsors. "It's been a year of rapid technological advances, and it's increasingly clear that technology will enhance hospitals' ability to connect with patients. Industry leaders will remain at the forefront of pioneering these changes." "As the nation's healthcare system pursues electronic health records, the Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study serves as an important tool for hospitals to measure where they stand in using technology effectively," said Mark Spencer, vice president of marketing, McKesson Provider Technologies and one of the 2006 survey sponsors. "As the world's largest healthcare services company, McKesson is pleased to support a vehicle that serves to sharpen focus on health IT, while helping our customers evaluate opportunities to automate care and improve delivery processes." Since 1998, Hospitals & Health Networks -- the journal of the American Hospital Association -- has named the nation's 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems. Hospitals can also be named Most Improved, Most Wireless and Most Wired-Small and Rural. In addition, hospitals that have unique IT projects in place can compete in the Innovator Award essay contest to be named an Innovator winner or finalist. Further information on the Innovator Award may be found at http://www.hhnmostwiredsurvey.com . User ID codes and passwords have been mailed to all hospital CEOs. Hospitals that need the ID and password resent or are experiencing problems accessing the survey can send an email to mostwired@healthforum.com with the hospital's name, city and state. The eighth annual Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study is made possible through a partnership among H&HN, AHA, Accenture, McKesson Corp., and CHIME. The 2006 Most Wired Innovator Awards are a joint project of the survey sponsors with additional support from Cisco Systems. The 2006 Most Wireless Awards are a joint project with additional support from Intel. The 2006 Most Wired-Small and Rural awards are a joint project with additional support from Siemens. The 2006 Most Improved Awards are a joint project with additional support from AT&T.
