Aventail EX-2500 SSL VPN Wins Editor's Choice Awards by IT Week, Service Provider Weekly, and Web Week

Aventail's EX-2500 SSL VPN appliance received three Editor's Choice Awards by industry-leading publications, IT Week, Service Provider Weekly, and Web Week. In these awards, the Aventail SSL VPN was hailed for its end user experience, End Point Control, and Smart Tunneling, based on product reviews done by the publications. The Editor's Choice Awards identify significant technologies that meet stringent criteria in the areas of security, functionality, and value.
Service Provider Weekly recognized Aventail's technology leadership in the managed services market, a market Aventail has dominated for more than six years. The world's leading service providers and carriers, such as AT&T, BT Spain, IBM Global Services, Infonet, MCI, and Sprint, leverage the Aventail technology platform for their managed SSL VPN services business.
End User Experience
IT Week highlighted Aventail's ease of use for the end user. Aventail provides this ease of use with its Smart Access technology, which dynamically deploys the appropriate access method. Aventail does not require any action by end users -- they do not have to choose an access method or worry about their security environment -- Smart Access does the work for them, automatically determining the access method and security level needed.
"Aventail technology polls the remote user's computer or device and the appliance decides the best security scheme and whether the user should use the software-based agent application or the Web browser," stated IT Week in its December issue.
End Point Control
Web Week spotlighted Aventail's End Point Control, which ensures maximum security and control for remote access. Aventail's End Point Control allows administrators to set granular access rules based on the level of trust for an end point. An administrator can create multiple Aventail Policy Zones, such as Trusted, Semi-trusted, or Un-trusted, something not possible with any other SSL VPN on the market.
In addition to Aventail's End Point Control, Web Week lauded Aventail's Cache Control feature that prevents sensitive data from being left behind. "When a user retrieves sensitive corporate information through the VPN this feature offers the ability to delete the existence of the session on the remote PC or device by destroying the session's browser cache, history, entered password, and cookies."
Smart Tunneling
In addition to Aventail's experience in the managed services business, Service Provider Weekly recognized Aventail Smart Tunneling, which is a Layer 3 tunnel with policy control of Layers 4 through 7, providing a direct, secure communication link between the end point and the application and any reverse connection. Smart Tunneling is ideal for complex applications like VoIP.
"The Aventail EX-2500's Smart Tunneling offers dynamic routing, dynamic proxy detections and split tunneling, as well as an SSL browser-based OnDemand tunnel mode and a direct connect tunnel mode," stated Service Provider Weekly in its December issue.
