Foundry Networks Announces Its Participation in the Ethernet Alliance
15 January 2006
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 12 -- Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that Foundry is a founding member of the Ethernet Alliance and that Val Oliva, director of product management with the Enterprise Business Unit at Foundry, is named a member of the Ethernet Alliance Board of Directors. The Ethernet Alliance and its members are dedicated to the continued success and expansion of Ethernet technology across many industries. As a founding member of the Alliance, Foundry Networks will play a key role in promoting the acceptance and reducing the time-to-market of Ethernet-based solutions by supporting the advancement of existing and emerging Ethernet technologies. "We're pleased to have Foundry Networks as a founding member of the Ethernet Alliance," said Brad Booth, president, Ethernet Alliance. "Foundry was a very active member in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance, successfully promoting this important technology from its inception over five years ago. We look forward to their participation in the new Ethernet Alliance as we promote the acceptance and application of current and emerging Ethernet standards in a broad range of environments." In addition to Foundry Networks, founding members of the Ethernet Alliance include 3Com, ADC, Agere Systems, AMCC, Aquantia, Broadcom, Force10 Networks, Intel, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, Pioneer Corporation, Quake Technologies, Samsung, Sun Microsystems, Tehuti Networks, Tyco Electronics, The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), and Xilinx. Unlike past alliances that support single IEEE 802 Ethernet projects, the Ethernet Alliance will exist for as long as it remains relevant to IEEE 802 Ethernet technology and will bring the following benefits to IEEE 802 Ethernet projects: * Accelerate acceptance and reduce time-to-market of new Ethernet technologies. * Focus efforts to identify and specify new areas of Ethernet standardization. * Continued market education on the application and benefits of Ethernet solutions. Moreover, the Ethernet Alliance removes the barrier of start-up and organizational issues that surround individually dedicated efforts, saving both time and money. "As pioneers in high performance Ethernet networking solutions, Foundry understands the importance and benefits of the continued development, education and acceptance of Ethernet standards and related technologies," said Val Oliva, director of product management at Foundry. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with leading vendors in our industry to further advance Ethernet standards and solutions in applications that will benefit from the power, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of this important technology." After more than 25 years of evolution, Ethernet has evolved to be the world's most popular and dominant networking technology. Foundry has spear- headed the Ethernet evolution by being the first to deliver 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and Foundry continues to further this mission by ensuring that 100 Gigabit Ethernet products are in the market today. "The founding members of the Ethernet Alliance have played important roles in supporting Ethernet standards and advancements, and together they provide a strong foundation for the Alliance," said Cindy Borovick, program director, Datacenter Networks program, IDC. "The Ethernet Alliance promises to be a cohesive voice for the Ethernet industry."
