Network World Recognizes Aventail for Best Out-of-the-Box and End User Experience and Strongest High Availability Technology in SSL VPN Review

(www.aventail.com) is recognized for having the best out-of-the-box and end
user experience and the strongest high availability solution, according to
a recently published product review in Network World. The Network World
review follows a string of high-scoring product reviews for the Aventail
SSL VPN in key networking and security press, in which Aventail technology
is hailed for its ease of use, easy set-up, manageability, and end point
control features.
"Aventail brings heavy experience into the world of SSL VPN grounded in
both its long-standing appliance product line, as well as its years of
operating a managed security service," the review said.
The review tested several key criteria for SSL VPNs, including
application/client interoperability, high availability, end-point security,
security policy and access control, authentication interoperability,
manageability, portal control, and virtualization.
According to the review, Aventail provides the best out-of-the-box
experience and is a "dream for end users." Aventail "magically and
transparently upgrades users whenever they can to push out as many services
to which they're entitled," said the report.
User experience is noted as a critical buying criteria in the Network World
Review, which states, "Management is important, but it's not as important
as the user experience. Make sure the end-user community is going to be
happy, as it's a lot harder to do that than it is for you to learn how to
drive a new product."
Aventail provides this ease of use with its Smart Access technology, which
dynamically deploys the appropriate access method. Aventail does not
require any action by end users -- they do not have to choose an access
method or worry about their security environment -- Smart Access does the
work for them, automatically determining the access method and security
level needed.
Aventail's high availability was also recognized as a competitive advantage
by Network World. "Great high availability would start with Aventail's
built-in load balancer and clustering technology," stated the review.
Aventail provides a two-node cluster of its enterprise class appliances
with integrated load balancing and active/active failover that supports up
to 2,000 concurrent users.
The Network World review was performed on the Aventail EX-1500 appliance
with version 8.5 of Aventail's SSL VPN software. Since the testing,
Aventail has launched a new high-end appliance, the EX-2500, and an updated
version of its software, version ST. Aventail ST builds on the strengths
highlighted in the Network World review and includes several new features,
such as broader application reach for mobile devices and server-based
computing, additional management tools, and further end point security
capabilities.
