Tunespotting - the "name that tune" Melody Search Engine Launched
28 November 2005
Tunespotting.com, a new website launched by Red Balloon Technology Ltd, offers a new way to search and browse musical themes.
The website has a database of many thousands of browseable tunes covering all genres of music, and has three unique ways of searching:
* using the computer keyboard like a piano, users can simply tap out a melody and receive a list of matches * for added accuracy, musicians can drag real notes onto a stave using the Tunespotting notator interface. The search allows for note-entry in any key and is highly error-tollerant. * the Tunespotting forum allows users include musical notation within their post, and can therefore be used to post a melody and receive suggested answers from other visitors
The site also has a facility to allow users to add their own tunes to the database. The goal of the site is to build a comprehensive database of melodies and make them easily searchable and browseable in a variety of ways.
