Bizanga, the developer of the fastest and most complete E-Mail security appliance, has just released the latest version of the OOS(R) firmware for its line of carrier-class email appliances, the Intelligent Message Processor (IMP(R)). With this release, Bizanga again pushes the boundary of technology by allowing traffic-shaping of individual connections based on statistical characteristics of incoming traffic. It has also enhanced the business logic and the integration capabilities of the workflow policy processor, while at the same time boosting the throughput performance of the platform.
Increasingly spam, viruses and phishing attacks are distributed by hijacked PC's that send unsolicited, often malicious emails to the rest of the Internet without the knowledge of their owners. Bizanga's R&D has identified flexible, dynamic connection bandwidth management as a key weapon in the fight against this type of email.
Throttling spam sources
The new OOS(R) release correlates events on incoming emails and upon reaching individually definable thresholds per email gateway can execute numerous actions. These actions include temporary or permanent failure at SMTP level, with configurable error messages and traffic-shaping. In contrast to other filtering technologies, lowering the available bandwidth for connections from a gateway at the network level cannot generate false positives. Over time it also decreases the total amount of spam received, as spammers do not waste CPU cycles on slow connections.
Simpler workflows
The update of the business logic capabilities of the workflow policy processor allows for even easier mapping of any customer policy requirement. As with previous versions of OOS(R), the IMP(R) enables the service provider to leverage the workflow policy processor and its enhanced logic to deliver differentiated services to its end users with incomparable flexibility on a now even smaller footprint.
Industry-leading integration capabilities
With the new release, the IMP(R)'s already industry-leading integration capabilities has been further extended and now supports the most complete set of interfaces to third-party systems. It supports direct configurable integration with most widely used commercial databases (Oracle(TM), MySQL and any ODBC compliant database), with Microsoft Exchange in all available versions, with any standards-conformant LDAP directory system and any SOAP or Web-Services enabled information source. Finally, through its protocol editor the IMP(R) provides for integration with any non-standard challenge-response protocols leveraging reliable TCP-based connections.
