29 October 2005
Smartpaper Networks, a developer of a unique technology platform integrating print and digital media, has signed a deal to license the company’s patented intellectual property to Mattel’s Fisher Price division. The technology, which connects print and digital media with a touch of the finger, has been used to create Fisher Price’s InteracTV™ Learning System toy product, a popular interactive DVD-based toy released in fall of 2004.
“We are very excited that Fisher-Price has determined that our technology played a key role in the development of their InteracTV™ toy innovation,” said Daniel J. Radek, CEO of Smartpaper Networks. “It is clear that both kids and parents alike are finding this toy a success, based on sales of the product, which have been terrific. Our partnership with Fisher-Price demonstrates the power of our patents in the toy category, and we look forward to completing similar deals in other industries.”
The Fisher-Price InteracTV™ Learning System transforms TV into an active experience by allowing kids to interact with their favorite shows and characters, plus play learning games and activities, with specially-designed DVDs. To operate the system, kids can simply place the InteracTV DVD into a DVD player, insert an activity card into the InteracTV controller and footage from the featured episode begins. Children can interact with the show and answer questions by using the wireless controller. Over 100 randomized learning questions have been added to the shows, so as kids play these DVDs again and again, their experience will never be repeated.
The Fisher-Price InteracTV system includes a wireless InteracTV controller, 3 activity cards, a storage case, & a bonus DVD featuring SpongeBob™ SquarePants, Sesame Street®, and Dora the Explorer™.
Smartpaper Networks Signs Deal With Fisher-Price Smartpaper Networks, driven by the need and opportunity to address the missing link in the digital convergence, has developed the first technology to transform ordinary paper into a wireless control device, bringing printed pages to life by activating the power of video, audio, and/or the internet with the touch of a finger. The company’s core technology is strongly protected by 10 granted patents and has the potential for widespread applications within business, entertainment, education and the toy industries. Their business includes licensing their intellectual property as well as creating products derived from their patented technology, including SmartCover™, SmartBase™ and Smartpaper Studio™. Smartpaper Networks has offices in Baltimore, MD and Silicon Valley, CA. More information about the company can be found at www.smartpaper.net.
