Rave Wireless Announces Launch of New Service that Increases Usefulness of Mobile Phones in Our Lives

1 October 2005

Rave Wireless Inc. (www.ravewireless.com), the leading enabler of the next generation mobile lifestyle, today announces the launch of its Rave Service, initially targeted to universities and their students. This first-of-its-kind service increases the usefulness and relevance of mobile phones. Right from their phone, Rave users can easily personalize and share a world of information from timely traditional online media, to user- and community-generated content, all of which can be location-sensitive.

“The mobile phone is the first device since the key that everyone carries with them and yet its potential to empower people to connect to the world around them is vastly underutilized,” says Rave Wireless CEO Rodger Desai. “Luckily, today's youth provide a glimpse of the future. Rave enables the next generation mobile lifestyle by providing users with an easy way to bring together personally relevant information that can help them plan their day and keep connected to their communities.”

Rave is the result of intensive research by wireless and internet industry veterans into mobile phone usage by today's youth. “The movement towards personalization, self-expression and community has until now not been realized on mobile phones,” says Shikhar Ghosh, chairman, Rave Wireless. “Our research affirmed that today's highly mobile youth want instant access to local and timely information that supports their fluid lifestyle, whether from blogs, publicly available RSS feeds, or community-centric sources, as well as an easy way to express themselves within their communities. Rave is the first to meet this need.”

Rave is available on a monthly subscription basis and can be accessed and managed online at www.getRave.com. Rave Wireless's first customers are universities from around the U.S. that have purchased access for their students. The universities are utilizing Rave to facilitate more effective communication with students, strengthen relationships, increase utilization of university tools and services, and enhance safety.

New Jersey-based Montclair State University is currently conducting the first school-wide rollout of the service, while seven other universities are following Montclair's lead over the next several months, including Baruch College of the City University of New York and the University of South Florida. Some of the first university-focused channels on Rave include: tracking the exact location of Montclair State's campus transportation vehicles; in-class and remote interactive polling; daily information from community establishments about local restaurant specials and events; instant access to real-time library and school resource availability; and more.
