New Model 4762 Multiple Video Platform Allows 256 SDI Signals on One Fiber

28 September 2005

Force Optical Broadcast Systems announces the new Model 4762 Multiple Video Platform. This new product provides the Broadcast and CATV industry with a highly configurable, cost effective, and scalable platform for optical transport of a variety of audio, video, and data services over a single optical fiber.

Upgradeability and flexibility have been incorporated into the Model 4762 Multiple Video Platform. The 4762 system transports multiple uncompressed analog and/or compressed MPEG digital video in a variety of formats for a wide range of CATV, MSO, and Broadcast applications. Users will be able to transport 16 analog, 8 SDI, 24 ASI, and 48 SMPTE 310M signals on one single fiber. The customer can insert SMPTE 310 at the transmit site and receive DVB-ASI at the receive site allowing broadcasters and MSO to work in the video format of their choice. The 4762 allows the customer to mix and match any combination of video modules for ultimate flexibility. Combine Analog and Digital for today’s simulcasting and convert to all digital in the future. For large network applications, you can connect up to 32 Model 4762 chassis on a single fiber using Force’s DWDM technology for maximum signal transport.

Power and Optical Redundancy and Hot-Swapping are incorporated into all Model 4762 Platforms. The 5RU chassis accommodates up to eight service modules, along with dual power supplies, and two optical interface modules. If a power supply is damaged, the backup automatically kicks in without loss of service. The various signal modules are also hot swappable allowing the technician to change out card/modules without having to power down the unit.

All these features can be accessed and programmed easily via an onboard user-friendly management system. The Model 4762 has an intuitive front panel mounted LCD display, which will simplify installation, operation, and troubleshooting of all installed modules. The intuitive menu allows easy navigation using the front panel mounted keypad thereby reducing the amount of time a technician is in the field. SNMP has also been incorporated into the unit allowing seamless integration with the existing Network Management System. This feature allows the technician the ease of monitoring both local and remote signal quality from the Operations Center eliminating the need to roll a truck.

The Model 4762 dual optical line cards will automatically detect loss of light on the primary path fiber and select the secondary path to insure best in class quality. The optical interface modules are available in all standard wavelengths, including ITU DWDM grid, greatly increasing design diversity. The use of ITU DWDM grid lasers allows the system to be installed and operated on a legacy fiber system, eliminating the need to install additional fiber.

This video platform has been designed to be upgradeable, cost effective, and interoperable. For maximum video transport utilization, use Force’s 32 channel DWDM system to multiplex (MUX) all 32 4762 Chassis onto a single fiber. Said another way, you could have up to 256 SDI or 768 DVB-ASI video signals on a single fiber. Contact Force to find out how you can take advantage of this new product design.
