Spatial Data Releases E911 Solution for VoIP Providers

25 September 2005

Spatial Data Inc. today announced that it has released Version 2.0 of VixxiLink, which enables VoIP providers to quickly and efficiently provide 911 connectivity to their customers.

VoIP service providers have been given a mandate by the FCC to make Enhanced 911 emergency services available for all VoIP telephone users by the end of 2005.

“We are very pleased to offer this new level of 911 functionality to IP service providers, including cable companies," said Richard A. Peters, President. "Our architecture has a distinct advantage in that it serves every square inch of the United States, even those areas without 9-1-1.”

The VixxiLink process is straightforward and elegant: the VoIP telephone user, for whom the telephone instrument IP address is registered with the VoIP Service Provider (VSP), with its known and validated location, initiates a 911 emergency call. The VSP's 911 server, which is registered with the Vixxi VoIP Positioning Center, requests routing instructions along with all appropriate information.

The network provides two strategically placed entry points to field IP 911 calls placed anywhere in the United States, providing the shortest path between the caller and the correct Pubic Safety Answering Point, call center or other emergency location.

This information is sent to the appropriate Selective Router (ILEC Tandem 911 Switch) through a specific Vixxi Gateway selected by the Vixxi Data Center (based on the caller's location) that converts the information into the required format as useful information.

The Selective Router uses the information to determine the proper Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) as the destination for the E911 call. The Vixxi Gateway also sends the necessary address information and callback number in the correct format to the PSAP through the Automatic Location Identification (ALI) and Automatic Number Identification (ANI) databases, both of which are resident in the Vixxi Gateway.

PSAP personnel use the displayed ANI and ALI to know how to respond (i.e., dispatch the police, fire department, ambulance, etc. to the correct location).

VixxiLink has completed successful trials with several service providers and anticipates nation wide implementation as soon as the LECs are ready to provide service.
