Intensity Software Enhances Mainframe Migration Solutions with SQL for VSAM(TM)

8 September 2005

Intensity Software today announced the early availability of SQL for VSAM™, a utility that converts mainframe VSAM databases to Microsoft® SQL Server. SQL for VSAM™ Developer Edition will be included in the KICKS for .NET™ v2.0 SDK (Software Developer Kit) which is set to be released on September 29, 2005.

"We are very excited about the release of this new product, which is tightly integrated with KICKS for .NETâ„¢ v2.0," says Robert Lair, CEO of Intensity Software. "With this new product, organizations now have a new option for migrating their legacy VSAM databases to a true Microsoft .NETâ„¢ solution."

SQL for VSAM™ makes heavy use of Microsoft® ADO.NET technology and includes three major components: (1) The SQL for VSAM™ database schema converter uses VSAM file definitions to automatically generate a SQL Server database including the necessary tables, views, stored procedures, user defined functions and triggers. (2) Once the database has been created, the SQL for VSAM™ Data Loader utility is used to automatically load the VSAM file data into the SQL Server database. (3) The data can then be accessed within the legacy system using the SQL for VSAM™ run-time executive. In addition, the data can also be read relationally using any other system that can access the SQL database.

About KICKS for .NETâ„¢
KICKS for .NET™ is the newest version of the break-through CICS migration product originally released in 2003 under the brand NetKicks™. The newest release contains significant enhancements including dramatic run-time and compile-time performance improvements as well as support for additional CICS commands. KICKS for .NET™ also now supports the two most popular and widely used COBOL compilers for the Microsoft .NET™ Framework, Micro Focus’ NetExpress™ for .NET and Fujitsu’s NetCOBOL™ for .NET, making it the most flexible CICS migration solution available.

About Intensity Software, Inc.
Intensity Software, Inc. offers products and services in the area of legacy migration to .NET technologies. Intensity Software has a great deal of expertise in Microsoft .NET™ technologies as well as legacy systems and specializes in COBOL modernization and legacy system migrations. Among Intensity’s successes is The State of Washington Department of Licensing mainframe migration project. An earlier version of Intensity’s KICKS for .NET product was used to assist consultants migrating mainframe code to ASP.NET; today much of the conversion is complete and performing well, providing results comparable to mainframe speeds and reliability.
