TOSHIBA TEC Europe and TAGSYS Collaborate As Leaders in RFID- Bar Code Printing

2 August 2005

TOSHIBA TEC Europe, a leading retail and industrial automation solutions provider, today announced it has entered into an agreement with TAGSYS, the global leader in item-level RFID infrastructure, to integrate TAGSYS’ MEDIO™ S003 RFID readers into TOSHIBA TEC’s B-SX bar code printer portfolio. Available immediately, the integrated solution aims to reduce the total cost of ownership for enterprise ICT management infrastructure and guarantees faster time-to-market for bar code printing assets.

The collaboration brings together TOSHIBA TEC’s innovative leadership in the bar code printer market and TAGSYS’ proven track record of delivering Reliable, Accurate and Secure (RAS) item-level RFID systems and tags that automate labor-intensive processes, authenticate and safeguard goods, and enable real-time inventory and asset visibility. The integrated solution follows testing for product stability, ease of use and compatibility.

“The RFID market continues to evolve and is looking to companies like TOSHIBA TEC and TAGSYS to help guide it,” said Elie Simon, CEO of TAGSYS. “Our strategy in partnering with leading companies like TOSHIBA TEC will result in a greater ability for both our companies to deliver integrated turnkey and interoperable end-to-end RFID solutions that successfully meet specific item-level RFID needs.”

The joint European RFID-enabled bar code printing solution combines TOSHIBA TEC’s state-of-the-art bar code printing technology and TAGSYS’ industry leading RFID chipsets and tags. Together, the companies will develop projects and solutions that will support customers’ requirements associated with automating, improving and reducing localized solutions’ operating and maintenance costs.

“Since entering the European market, TOSHIBA TEC has seen the interest of RFID enabled solutions grow rapidly in recent months,” said Manabu Niwase, director product & marketing, TOSHIBA TEC Europe. “The partnership with TAGSYS brings together our strength in R&D, innovation and market presence with TAGSYS’ specialized expertise in item-level RFID systems. Together, we expect to bring rich solutions to our customers that will result in immediate and significant ROI.”

The new OEM agreement enables TAGSYS to provide continued RFID performance enhancements and new architecture support to TOSHIBA TEC’s customers. The integrated solution addresses the demands of easy integration, accuracy and the presence of a high-processing radio processing unit operating at 13.56MHz using minimal computing power for Windows® or UNIX based operating environments.
