VoIPUser.org Celebrates 10,000 User Milestone With New Complementary Soft Phone and Website Redesign

VoIP User, a leading non-profit hosted voice provider, today announced that it has reached a key milestone in its development by connecting its 10,000th user to it's ground breaking service. To celebrate this milestone, the VoIP User community is making available a new soft phone developed in conjunction with SIPfoundry. SIPfoundry, the leading open source SIP based enterprise communications development organization, provided the 100 percent open source, 100 percent SIP-based sipXphone to VoIP User to help it expand its range and reach of hosted voice service.
“Market acceptance for VoIP User services has been extraordinary in the short time since our launch in January,” said Dean Elwood, a co-founder of VoIP User. “Whilst we have many VoIP experts and industry people in our forums, our user base also has an element of newcomers to VoIP and the SIP protocol. By leveraging the exceptional work and organization of SIPfoundry we have been able to quickly deliver an easy-to-install and use soft phone for that target audience in a very short time. As new features are created and made available by SIPfoundry, including presence and IM capabilities, we can easily make them available to our users and continue to enhance their user experience.”
VoIP User currently has members spanning 50 countries and plans to expand into new markets over the next 12 months. “We like users to actually be able to test and experiment with VoIP and the SIP protocol, rather than just discuss and theorise in our forums. To that end, we created a community funded PSTN gateway system for our users to try VoIP using SIP. The SIPfoundry softphone makes that process as painless for the newcomer as possible,” added Tjardick van der Kraan, also a co-founder of the site.
