InterSense Delivers Helmet Tracking Solution for Boeing's F-15E Flight Simulator Program

20 May 2005

InterSense, Inc., a market leader in precision helmet tracking systems for flight simulation and training, worked closely with Boeing engineers to complete the integration of an IS-900 tracking system into the F-15E flight simulator last month. InterSense received an order for additional tracking systems to support Boeing's F-15K Flight Simulator Program for the Korean Air Force.

The integration effort at Boeing's St. Louis facility required custom-fitting of InterSense's IS-900 acoustic reference transmitters into the F-15E's canopy bow. This tracking reference system allows a lightweight, inertial-based, helmet-mounted tracker to be used with the Boeing VIDS 20/20 Area of Interest (AOI) display system and simulated Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), providing pilots with realistic night time mission training scenarios. This system provides the pilot with eye-limiting resolution in color throughout the full field of view. Full simulator installations for the Korean Air Force are scheduled to begin in January 2006. Additional installations for the U.S. Air Force F-15E flight simulators are expected to begin by July 2006.

"We are very pleased to be working with Boeing and with the results of the integration effort. By installing the small acoustic transmitters in the canopy bow, we achieve full 360-degree tracking of the pilot's head without obscuring his vision," states Mike Donfrancesco, InterSense Vice President of Sales. "This successful installation is further evidence of the IS-900's flexibility for use in flight simulators."

Introduced in 1999, InterSense's IS-900 motion tracking product family is an enabling technology used in flight simulation, mission training systems, oil and gas exploration, and other immersive display applications. With over 1,000 systems deployed worldwide, the IS-900 product offers reliable and accurate motion tracking for the most demanding applications.

InterSense, Inc., founded in 1996, is the market leader in miniaturized, inertial-based, precision motion tracking technology used with simulation, training and immersive display systems. InterSense's patented motion tracking products enable realistic interaction with computer graphics for a variety of applications, including: simulation and training; oil and gas exploration; virtual prototyping and design; medical imaging; entertainment; and video/film production. Privately held, InterSense is headquartered at 36 Crosby Drive, Bedford, MA 01730. Telephone: 781-541-6330. Fax: 781-541-6329. Web site: http://www.intersense.com.
