GretagMacbeth Introduces New Workshop for the Apparel Industry

GretagMacbeth today announced their newest color workshop, How to get the color you want... without compromise. The announcement was made by Roland Connelly, GretagMacbeth director of enterprise color management solutions. It will be held on June 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Katie Murphy Amphitheatre of The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. Cost is $499/person and includes a complimentary Eye-One Display calibration system for computer monitors.
The workshop focuses on techniques and new technologies that help apparel brands and retailers minimize color compromises to meet aggressive market deadlines. It's intended for apparel designers, brand stewards, managers/directors of corporate color programs and anyone responsible for color reproduction throughout the supply chain, including sourcing partners.
"Achieving color specifications with the time constraints of aggressive market deadlines and the distance constraints of mills located halfway around the world is a huge challenge," says Connelly. "Often it results in 'concession colors' -- colors that are a compromise between what you really want and what you can realistically get."
Connelly explains that the course will discuss basic color fundamentals from the mill's perspective so that apparel brands and retailers can apply these fundamentals early in the design process to reduce off-spec colors. He adds that the course will also demonstrate how to apply new technologies to streamline this process and increase the likelihood that the resulting lab dip will be much closer to the color specification.
Some of the new technologies demonstrated will include electronic sample simulators that reduce physical sample submits and profiling technologies that ensure precise color rendering on computer monitors and guarantee data integrity on color measurement instruments.
