Ultradata Systems Develops Cell-Phone Travel Computer
9 May 2005
Ultradata Systems, Incorporated (OTCBB:ULTR - News), a leader in the field of hand-held electronic information systems, today announced it has completed development of an initial implementation of its patented Road Whiz travel computer that functions on the user's cell phone. Like the hand-held Road Whiz travel computer, which has sold more than three million units, the Cell Phone Road Whiz provides directions, distance, and driving times to services, such as gas, food, lodging, rest areas, hospitals, shopping malls, and campgrounds, from the user's current location on major US highways. However, the Cell Phone Road Whiz requires no additional hardware; software will be downloaded from a server to the phone, which will then enable the cell phone user to access Road Whiz functionality and continuously updated data on the phone's screen.
Commenting on the new product, Monte Ross, Ultradata CEO, said, "Similar to downloading of games, the Road Whiz software enables quick requests and quick answers to questions, such as, 'Where is the nearest hospital?,' or, 'Where is the closest McDonalds?' The user needs no additional hardware other than a current generation cell phone.
"Ultradata will use its proprietary database of services and its patents to enable this service to be offered at very low cost to the consumer," Ross said. "The Cell Phone Road Whiz has the virtue of simplicity of use, but it also has the potential to provide additional services to the user, such as discounts targeted to the user's location and needs. For example, if one is looking at night for a motel, the system's patented methodology allows it to provide the information that there is a brand-name motel 10 miles down the road with rooms available and to offer a significant discount to that highly targeted user. We believe our patent on electronic coupons for travelers will have significant payoff as real-time targeting of travelers grows.
"We are proceeding into field testing of the new cell-phone product and we plan to demonstrate the system to carriers and other system operators in the coming months," Ross said.
Ross concluded, "Introduction of this new product, together with our recently announced introduction of the voice-activated Road Genie Audio Navigation system (www.roadgenie.com), will give us two different thrusts into the marketplace with high revenue and earnings potential."
