Syracuse Company to Present New Forensic Video Analysis Technology at Homeland Security Conference

Vy Corporation (http://www.vycorporation.com), a technology development company headquartered in Syracuse, New York, will be introducing new technology that automatically provides close-up imagery of car occupants for immediate action or later forensic analysis. "What makes the technology unique is its ability to recognize shapes," said Vy Chairman John Freyhof. The software identifies a car by naming each element: roof, windshield, hood, or front. Existing techniques can detect motion, but cannot aim a camera at a particular car part such as a windshield or license plate.
The new technology is being presented at the IEEE Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security in Boston (http://www.ieeeboston.org/homeland2005/). The conference is intended to bring together representatives from industry, government, and new technology for the purpose of improving homeland security.
"This is the kind of innovative new technology that can benefit from the broad-based resources available in Central New York," said Nasir Ali, VP for New Venture Development for the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.
Vy Corporation develops software that identifies shapes (vehicles, people, and weapons) in video imagery. Vy's technology, called Vy-Pars®, is being developed to track cars at military check points, civilian toll booths, and border crossing points. The company's patented software provides powerful segmentation derendering capabilities for data mining video imagery using design principals similar to the human eye.
